Flearchitecture is an initiative by b720 Fermín Vázquez Arquitectos for the World Capital of Architecture, Barcelona 2026, in which architecture studios, organizations, and companies from the construction sector participate.
We contributed with a model and a drawing representing an ongoing project at the time, titled PLOT TWIST:
The project is set within a typical floor plan of the Gràcia neighborhood: a small, elongated space with an opening on the main façade, access to the rear courtyard through two large openings, and a secondary connection to a lightwell.
Although the intervention could have been quickly resolved by adapting the existing layout, we chose instead to reinterpret the established scheme—relocating the main bedroom to the interior of the dwelling and allowing the study/dressing room to occupy the main façade. The project was designed for a screenwriter and an actress, so every space also becomes a place for work, preparation, and inspiration.
From this point, a single 7-meter-long rail articulates the different sliding doors of the new entrance hall, bedroom, bathroom, and the beginning of the kitchen. A resonance of stained and colored pine wood establishes a functional sequence from one end to the other. By revealing the original structural turns, new storage elements—wardrobes, shelves, and drawers—densify the space, allowing it to compress and expand according to its daily use.
One more twist in the endless cycle of renovations that are made and unmade in Barcelona every day.
